Plain language business writing

We love all forms of writing. When it comes to instructions, we are passionate about plain language. Text that is hard to read costs money. People take longer and may make mistakes. Why use a long word when a short one will do?  Here is one of our favourite guides.

Below is our slide show about plain language for business.

Writing instructions for computer users

Making mistakes and wasting time on the computer costs money. Not knowing the best way to do something also costs money. Instructions for using software need to be simple, clear and uniform. It is easy to confuse people if you use the wrong terms. We recommend creating a standard set of terms for actions and screen elements. This presentation has a set of terms that we have carefully thought out. You may want to use different words, but our message is to decide on your words and always use them.
