Confluence hosting and cost
For up to 10 users, Confluence is extraordinarily low cost
It’s easier for most of our business clients to use Confluence Cloud. Atlassian hosts your data and provides technical support. For up to 10 users it is extraordinarily low cost—see https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/pricing (Select the Cloud tab)
If you have a larger organisation you may want to host your own Confluence installation. It is cheaper and more versatile to do this but you need a good IT department to maintain it—see https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/pricing (Select the Self-managed tab)
Confluence Apps extend what it can do
Confluence is designed so that people can write ‘plug-ins’ to add more abilities to it. At the time of writing there were 222 Apps available for extending Confluence. See https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?hosting=cloud&product=confluence
